Excess Soil Management in Ottawa and across Ontario
Almost every excavation produces soil that has to go somewhere. Ontario’s On-Site and Excess Soil Management Regulation (O. Reg. 406/19) makes the project leader responsible for knowing the quality of that soil and making sure it goes to an appropriate site. For many projects, that means an assessment of past uses, a sampling and analysis plan, a soil characterization report and a notice on the Excess Soil Registry before soil leaves the site. We handle the planning so your excavation contractor can keep trucks moving, and we look for reuse options that cut hauling and tipping costs.

Excess Soil Management questions
Can we use our Phase II data for excess soil planning?
Often, yes. If the Phase II was designed with excess soil in mind, its data can reduce or even replace additional sampling. That is one reason to bring us in before drilling starts.
Who is responsible if soil goes to the wrong place?
Under the regulation, the project leader, usually the owner or developer, carries the main responsibility. Good planning and tracking protect you.
